Dec 17-21.  I'd like to go someplace further north someday, but don't want to start completely from scratch, so I'll be in and around the BANWR again.  I'd like to backpack it, but forced to camp in campsites on the refuge.  Might backpack it on private land nearby.  It'll be just me, although my brother might come along for the ride.  Looking forward to it.

elmcreek, make sure you check water holes out there. It is dry and they will be hitting them in the daytime.

Im on my way out!

Saw more deer than last time, both muleys and coues, including a couple young muley bucks.  It rained before we got there and one night while we were there.  Made tracking easier, but never saw a deer at a water hole and only found tracks at a couple holes despite many of them being dry.  There were alot of small puddles around.  Didn't get close enough for a shot at anything I saw and tracked.  Not much opportunity to glass from a high spot in the refuge where I was, at least not for muleys.  We glassed some coues does, but no bucks.  I've only spent 5 full total days hunting down there, still learning the ropes.  Eric, thanks for putting me on to this AZ OTC deal - having a good time.  If I have enough vacation time left, I might try to make it back in January now that I've got some scouting in.

Had a mountain lion sneak almost into my back pocket at a water hole the last night.  I didn't know she was there until I heard steps RIGHT behind me.  I turned my head around and we were close to enough to shake hands!  She didn't know I was there either and very carefully put it in reverse.  I saw a smaller cat jump off the top of the dam as I backed a couple steps away.  Told her "I'm coming for my pack" as I moved ahead and never heard or saw them again.  Once in a lifetime!
