California Deer Tag Validation: Regulations vs. The Hunter
Tue, 01/17/2012 - 18:33
Would love to hear your feedback on this issue guys. SoCal Bowhunter Blog: California Deer Tag Validation: Regulations vs. The Hunter Preparation for deer season starts as early as you want it to. For me, I can never get hunting off the brain, so I am already preparing for the 2012 season and for good reason. In reviewing the regulations regarding deer tags and reading a few publications and forum posts, I have realized that there are many unanswered questions regarding the validation of CA deer tags, especially in Southern California.
In California, after you shoot a deer and fill out the tag, you must have it validated and countersigned by the closest person allowed by law to do so. I just read an interesting article in the California Bowmen Hunters Jan 2012 Newsletter by Wayne Raupe CBH/SAA Legislative Coordinator discussing the subject. He make some great points about who is allowed to sign off and how soon it needs to be done. Click here for the rest of the article.

That is about the craziest, most rediculous law I have ever heard! Hear in idaho we are required to check in our bears, Mountain lions, and "once in a lifetime" species but it is just a stop by a Fish and Game office within 10 days.

It's really nutty, Eric. There are many would-be hunters that decide not to even try because of these laws and regulations. We are trying to help as many people as we can understand the regs and to get them out in the field. It's not easy, but one step at a time we'll help whomever we can.
