We were done a week ago, and have been trying to catch up on work since. Nathan is still swamped, so I will share his story.
Look for a more detailed story by Nathan in the near future.
Opening day left us with a great respect for the sight of these sheep.
About 9:00 AM on the first day of the hunt, Chad had glassed up a large herd of sheep about 1500 yds away. They fed for about an hour and bedded. We decided to make our stalk up a wash into the canyon they were bedding in. About 300 yards into the stalk...WE WERE BUSTED! I couldnt believe it. They ended up running over a mile away. Right then I knew this was going to be very tuff.
There wasnt any gover in the whole area, just ankle high bushes. Our plan was to bed a herd down and try and sneek around and on top of them. We tried this multiple times during the next few days only to keep getting busted. The sheep seem to always bed near the top of a ridge or knoll, and spread out around the whole are so that the herd has eyes 360 degees around for safety.
It is near impossible to get within bow range in this area.....so after 9 days of fruitless effort(We only had 14 days to hunt) Nathan decided to get out the 300 WIN Mag. This is a "once in a lifetime" tag and he wasnt about to let it become tag soup.
We were still gonna pack the bow too, just in case we got a good opportunity.
We ended up finding a herd the next day at first light. We quickly turned the 600 yard gap to 350. I spotted for Nathan as he used the top of a ridge as a rest. As soon as the the large ram turned broadside, Nathan let him have it.I saw him drop right in his tracks and immediatly started jumping up and down and yelling. Nathan didnt even know that he had hit the ram. We I said "you dropped him" it sank in! We hugged, high-fived, and jumped up and down for at least 5 minutes.
Nathan really wanted to get this done with his bow, but due to the time contraint and zero cover he harvested his once in a lifetime TROPHY with his rifle.
I will have the memories of this awesome hunt with my brother forever.

DANG!!! AWESOME JOB NATE!!! LOVE THE PICS!!! Chad coulnt stop talking about the terrain and the places these animals hang out, from what he was saying you guys were nearly risking your life to get within bow range, I cant blame you for not wanting to add this one to the tag soup!!!
Great job on a once in a life time opportunity. hope I get a chance some day.

What an awsome hunt and trophy! There is no shame in using a rifle to get it done either.
Bow, Rifle, no matter. What does matter is NO GUIDE. No one took you by the hand and brought you to the ram. Just like you, I would want to get one with a bow but would probably do the same in the end. Is it good eats??
Great article nate! Nothing gets better than nabbing a big horn and pound a victory ale.
This site is awesome. I will try to promote it as much as possible.
Awesome article nate! cant wait to do some calling again! see you soon
