I don't know about very long but they sure are wide!!!! Well, I just want to get the plan started... I live in Bush, AK for a few years and I have a few connections that could help us with the NW herd. We could fly into Nome or Kotz then get a drop camp from there...
Before I start an all out plan I am thinking 2012.... I dont' know how much it would be yet but I am sure it is alot cheaper than a guided hunt... and alot more fun...
Also, does anybody have any research that we could build on??
Any particular herd you want to hunt? I am all about the NW herd of AK... I have hunted it in the past and I have connections in the bush so it is nice to have backup... Any ideas??
What are you thinking Jason, hiring a bush plane to pick up/ drop off or do you know a hike in area? The area you hunted before was it a migration area or was it the caribou's home turf? If we are looking to hit a migration timing is gonna be key. I have never been up there so I know basically nothing about it. I will help wherever I can though, let me know what I can do.
Yeah Bush Plane Drop-off and/or a float trip. I have hunted the Bering Straight before by boat and I have killed a few that way but I would what to go in deeper... There really isn't "trails" like we know them in the 48... That is why boat travel is so important... I think the big expense is going to be getting to Nome... We could also hunt out of Anchorage but I am not familar with that area... Let me see if I can find some good charters.
