DIY Gear - What have you made?
Wed, 06/29/2011 - 17:00
We've got this great forum and we really don't have anyone posting some of the things they make or do on their own. What DIY gear have you made for yourself? I am very curious as I am sure a lot of other folks are. I'll get us started. One of the things I have tried, especially in the field is a natural scent reducer. I fill an old sock with baking soda and leave it in my Rubbermaid container or sometimes I will put it in my pack to try to soak up some of the odor I give off. No proof that it works, but I do get close to animals. What have you made or what are some of your Tips? |

nothing iv made but most people that pack in carry a bed roll and bag i just cutt a few branches of spruce and lay my bag on in pluse when you wake up in the morning you smell super fresh. the other thing acculy my dad has done for years is at lunch we call it his mexican pow wo burn some spruce or pine the smoke is a natural smell that last a long time just depends on your investment in camo these are just some things we do .
DIY equipment is the best. My favorite, lighted nocks!

I get them at the store i work at. They sell for about 4 bucks for 2 lights. With my employee discount i can make 6 lights for about 10 bucks.

We take old pairs of jeans and made some hip quivers for the range. It isn't anything special but it is something we've done.

I have been known to use non-lubricated condoms to cache water in the backcountry.... :)
They can hold almost a gallon and having a little water can stashed save you ass in the desert...

Not really my own. But I will take some 35mm film canisters with cotton balls and vaseline for fire starters. Helps when your out camping.
Nothing too special but, I made my own wrist sling out of 550 paracord. It looks cool and works great!

One thing that I have done is take an old sock and cut off the foot part and use it as and arm gaurd to keep a bulky jacket sleeve out of the way
