DIY Public Land Biggie Piggie
Sun, 08/14/2011 - 02:18
I don't post much, but everytime I run into Eric at BPS he tells me to post - so here ya go big E. This was a DIY public land hunt in, get this, Southern California! Used a trail cam to pattern a sounder, set up a make-shift ground blind for an ambush and launched an arrow from 24 yards. Tracked the hog into the thick stuff before it got dark, but the tunnels were scary and no side arm. Went back at daylight, and recovered the pig less than forty yards from impact. Drag out was brutal, took me over four hours to get it back to my truck, which was only about 200 yards from the kill - but had several draws and small canyons. 285 lb. |

Here's another DIY on public land. Tasted great!! Sorry about the colorful picture, I was really tired and forgot to clean it up a bit.
Nice pigs!
I shoot a bow.
It's a pretty camo one.
I shoot a black one at targets,
and I heart Eric.

Just bring your bow down to the Santa Ana river bed, but be stealthy, because everyone has given be a different interpretation of the local laws. Here's another public land hog (nine months ago). Good luck.
i live real close to the riverbed about what area? norco miraloma area? thanks

Both areas have pigs, but you have to be careful, there is a wildlife refuge (Hidden Valley Wildlfie Refuge) that is strictly off limits - you have to check the borders. You may want to set up a couple of trail cams to find and pattern them. There are hikers and lots of horse riders - you don't want to be seen. Check the local laws and ordinances for legalities. Here's a younger boar I whacked just two weeks ago.
yes you have to be very carefull and stealty,I have had several run in with the local leos who dont know what the laws are themselves, do not hunt on the miraloma side off of limonite it is posted everywhere. I used to hunt off of old jurupa over by the old dump and the golf course but too much traffic have driven most of the hogs out, try from the 15 fwy up to about california street stay a min of 1000 yds from the wildlife refuge though. best thing to do is know somebody that lives in the bluffs in norco that has riverbottom access and get there permission. Make sure you have your liscense and a pig tag people will turn you in if they even see you with a bow in there neighborhood . GOOD LUCK
Very nice hope for continued sucess.
Nice hogs. I have been hunting that area for over 15 years and have never even seen a color phase hog. I want to get one bad. all the hogs I'm seeing are all black.
That which does not kill me
had better run pretty dam fast!
