Have you taken your hunters safety and got a hunting license yet?
- Team DIY
Yes, I did take the safety course and received my certificate
Great! Now you need your hunting lisence and get a deer tag or tags. There is an either sex LA County archery tag that you should get.
Yes, I'm looking forward to it again. I was a bit confused about that either sex deer tag though. Last year, I got my AO tag and I was under the impression that I would be able to hunt either sex as long as I had my AO tag, Luckily, a ran into somone who explained that I would need an "either sex archery tag" ... So, I decided to call Fish and Game to have them explain it to me and the game warden with whom I spoke to said that we are never allowed to hunt does! Is that true? Was I misinformed? The rules and regulations on the Fish & Game website is really lengthy and somewhat confusing... For instance, the places where archery hunting is allowed. I looked at the Zone D11 area and it covers quite a bit of land. Are we allowed to hunt anywhere in that designated area including the front country or do we have to stick to wilderness areas and back country? Any information would help greatly
That Game Warden misinformed you!
Ther are no tags for just Does, but there are 3 different either sex tags.
(26) A-31 (Los Angeles Archery Either-Sex Deer Hunt).
Here is a link to the Regulations
As far a where you can hunt....We should talk on the phone about that...I could right a book on here.
Thanks for the reply, Eric. Good information to have! I will definitely be getting me either sex archery tag this year and when I do, I'll be contacting you as to where to go. Thank you for your help.

I'm pretty noob too, and I'm in the SBNF (back yard). I hope you don't mind me asking a couple questions as long as they stay on topic. I'm confused about when and how the deer tags are distributed. The way I read it, it is a lottery, and you get the zone that you get according to the lottery. But I may be wrong. I also understand that the lottery system is also there so that there is fair distribution in the total of tags given per zone. Can you choose which zone you want to hunt? And I haven't seen any info on when tags go up for grabs. I've been on the DFW site, and under the online tags/lisencing page there is nothing on getting deer tags. What am I missing?

Slide, I posted in the Mule Deer section that the new 2013 Big Game Booklet came out. You can read it on line and there is a lot of new info in there that will answer a ton of questions. If you want one of those booklet in your hand you have to answer a questionair and then give your address and they will send one to you. Also there will be some stashed at the local outdoor stores in a week or two.
