Hunting boot recommendations

I know many of you swear by the Danner Pronghorns, which are a great boot. Beside those, what other boots do you like for rugged terrain? I am not looking for reviews on other sites or from others. I want to know what YOU have tried or are wearing. I have had a few boot companies recommended to me and while some come highly recommended, they don't look durable enough for a backcountry hunt in the Rockies. What are your thoughts on boots and what do you wear? |
I use the Rocky Lynx which is an 8" boot and is uninsulated. I like the uninsulated for the fact that they are cooler in the summer and I can always add some wool socks in the winter. They are very durable and are very comfortable. The sole is very rugged and grips very well. They have worked out excellent for me and are so far my favorite pair of boots that I have owned.

Al, I have a few pair for different applications. I have had pronghorns and think they're junk. I love my danner Canadians for cold weather with activity as they are 600 gr. I have rocky silent stalkers that have now been replaced by the danner jackals for my lightweight non insulated boots. My favorites as of now are the Kenetrek mountain extreme non insulated for a tough, sturdy pair that will hold up in the backcountry.

I have tried so many boots I can't even count them. I used to wear nothing but Danner but I was buying at least two pair a year cause they just didn't hold up. I finally but the bullet and forked over the cash for a pair of Kenetrek's and I won't wear anything else now. I like the Mountain Extreme and the Hardscrabble Hiker. I use the hiker the most. Kenetrek has the one piece upper with the rubber rand so they hold up at least four times longer than any other boot I have tried. The less seams in a boot meast there is less chance of one failing, we all know that is the first place a boot breaks down. I have no complaints with me Kenetrek boots, well worth the money.

I like Asolo for Mountaineering, they provide awesome foot and ankle support and have not bee worn out yet! I also have have good success with SCHNEE'S Beartooth and would like to try out the UA Speed Freek boots
Thanks guys! Rudy, with the Schnee's Beartooth, how long would you say they lasted you? Have you ever tried the Wilderness boot? The Beartooth looks like a solid boot.

I am on my second year, as that's the duration they have been in production. They are still going strong and no complaints!
Never tried the Wilderness boot, but in hind-sight should have gotten the the Wilderness. I prefer a shorter boot unless I was chasing Mtn Goats!
