So i just got a jetboil and i was wondering who out there has one and what they thought about it. Any tips to keep in mind or any good recipes they use in the backcountry with the jetboil?
I have one and I love it... Tips? Don't put anything in it other than water... keep it clean... I swear by Mountain House and making you own... Backpacker Pantry is ROUGH!!!
BTW your boil times will vary by the amount of water that you put in so don't go over 2 cups.. :)
Jason is right on. I use one as well and NEVER put anything other than water in it. Tested one out two years ago by putting coffee in it with the coffee insert. The coffee 'sticks' to the inside and well, your water tastes like coffee and you just don't want to have to clean it in the backcountry. Just use water, instant coffee and you'll be set. I like Mountain House for some meals, too. I also like packing oatmeal packets, too.

Yep just heat water for Mountain House, coffee, oatmeal, etc. I don't have a Jetboil but something similar. My brother uses the Jetboil and I have to say it is pretty sweet, heats water super fast.
Love the jetboil and no doubt it boils water in a hurry, but for high county backpack hunts, I prefer the the Trangia Mini (http://www.trangia.se/english/2924.mini_trangia.html). Its lighter than the jet boil (330g v 425g) and cheaper ($35 v $70). Since there is no specialized fuel canister required, finding fuel is not an issue, it burns denatured alcohol or methonal (Heet) which can be found at almost any gas station. The Trangia's design is simple and has no working parts, so there is no chance of malfunction or clogged jets. It does have its drawbacks: it takes 5 minutes to boil 16oz of water versus the jetboil time of 2 minutes and in extreme cold it can be difficult to burn denatured alcohol.
