Morgan's 2009 Blacktail
Wed, 09/23/2009 - 16:17
On the last day, of the last morning in A zone, my friend Morgan and I went to his place to hunt. We got to his ground blind at 5:45am, and settled in, hoping to shoot at a buck or even a hog.
After 2 hr's of sitting in the blind, Morgan suggest's we take a walk. So we head to the north side of the ridge that, the blind is on. Morgan spot's a doe, so we freeze for about 2 minute's, and then out come's a little spike, that we have seen through the achery and rifle season. As they make there way through the oak's and disappear, we start walking. We head back toward's the blind, and head up the ridge. While cresting the ridge, I spot, a yearling and a doe,at 100yd's. The wind was in our face. While the doe spotted us, a buck crosse's behind the doe, we see that's it's a shooter buck. But he vanishe's behind some oak tree's. At this point we think that they all left. So I walk about 10 yd's to my left, and I can see nothing but the buck, standing broadside, through a little opening, of about 10" x 12", I motion to Morgan to get over to where I was. Morgan get's there, and get's ready to shoot. He fire's and you hear the qwack, as the copper bullet, hit's the buck, right in the pump house, the buck, lunge's forward, on his back leg's, and run's toward's the lower steep side of the ridge. We both head to where we saw him last. To find a awsome blood trail. We follow the trail, to find a monster huge 3x2, heavy horned 17" high X 20" wide, with eyegaurd's, 2 3/4" and 3 1/2" long. After all the excitement and knuckle bashing, and picture's, and video to come soon. I went back to get my Tahoe, so we could winch the buck out, from where the buck went down. I'd like to congratulate Morgan, on a great buck, and the great season we both had. |

What a beautiful buck !!!!!!!!! Is this considerd a true Columbian ?
Noe THAT is a heavy horned deer! Congrats to Morgan for laying the smack down and to you for spotting it. What a great story. I really enjoyed reading it.
