"My f*cking wrist is broken, and so is my rest"
Fri, 04/29/2011 - 19:09
A little over an hour ago I was shooting my new Monster MR6(28" 81lbs) everything was going fine. Knocked an arrow (GT XT Hunter 7595 28 1/4" 413 gr total weight), drew back, acquired my target and pulled the release....BOOM!!!!!!. arrow exploded and pieces shot all over the room. I feel a sharp pain in my hand and wrist and instantly said to my buddy "I broke my f*cking wrist" look down to see blood on my wrist and hand. After regrouping and realizing my wrist is ok but extremely swolen with a bad gash and cuts on my hand from the vanes I inspected my bow to find the top bar on my QAD and the drop away portion are busted and the shaft that holds the drop away is noticeably bent. These arrows were purchased just yesterday afternoon. I always flex first and always check for flaws. Just wondering if this is something I will have to foot the bill for or will Gold Tip pick it up for putting out a piece of crap arrow. I am lucky to have gotten away with only superficial wounds, but things could have been much worse. Not sure this will do anything for anyone, but I am not sure I will ever shoot a GT again. There are enough things going through my mind when it comes to shooting, who needs to worry about an arrow exploding.... |

Wow that sucks man! I have been shooting GT Pro Hunter 7595;s for the past 2 years out of my Elite's at 72 pounds and they are working great. With an 81 pound Monster I wonder if you should be looking at a stiffer arrow like a Kinetic 300 or 200? I think it takes a lot of spine to work right out of those Monster's. I hope the wrist is ok.

Yeah I considered going with the kinetics but was told the 7595 cut at 28 1/4 would be fine and to be honest the spine was fine and performing well out to 70 yards yesterday. I think I may have just gotten a bad arrow..i guess we will see what happens.

WOW!!! Are you going to try again with another arrow out of the same batch? I would call or email Gold Tip. Send them some pictures of your wrist for sure. If it is the arrows they should do more than give your money back.
Stick with Easton......

Glad to hear it's not broken, but I agree with Eric. Take photos (lots of them from different angles) and back them up.
BUT - the only way you'll get anything from a manufacturer is by going to the Dr. and having a report done with them stating the injuries. You should post a pic here!
I would email GoldTip right away and let them know what happened. Give them the batch # and everything.

I'd take pics and email or call their customer service. Glad your ok and not hurt really bad.
I hear all of you and of course the first thing I did was take pictures and contact Tim at Gold Tip. I will try to post them on here in a bit. There were no doctor visits needed so I am glad that I do not have to deal with that BS.

A little update, I guess I didnt inspect for flaws close enough. After looking at the rest of the arrows, I found one with a noticeable flaw on it. Almost like a bubble...Sure is reassuring to find.

I am waiting to hear back from Tim Gillingham today. He was at a shoot in Augusta GA over the weekend. I will be sure to post whatever he says, good or bad. I know Tim a little and I have faith their company will handle it correctly, especially after I found the other defective arrow in the same dozen.

Man, that sucks! I have shot those arrows for 10 years...never had a problem! I am shooting the new Kinetics and love them. Tim should beable to help you...great guy! That is funny...last arrow I have seen blow up was an Easton Axis..over 2 years ago. Was loud...and scary, but my buddy didn't get the same results...lucky...did fold his cams though.

That is a nasty looking pic! It's been a long time since I have seen an arrow blow up, luckily. I hope it all works out for ya. Good luck.
