Here's the article from the San Bernardino Sun.
Man who poached deer in Yosemite sent to jail
by Jannise Johnson
FONTANA- Three men have been convicted and fined for poaching deer over the past few years.
Chad Gierlich, 37 of Riverside, Chris Gierlich, 35 of Fontana, and Kyle Narasky, 35 of Apple Valley were convicted earlier in the year of poaching deer in Yosemite.
The multi-agency investigation also found Chad Gierlich poached deer in Lake Perris State Park and Chino Hills State park, according to a news release from California Fish and Game. The men hunted deer with bows and arrows.
Evidence of these poachings was found from Chad Gierlich's computers and GPS units seized during the investigation.
This year, Chad Gierlich was also twice cited for fishing and boating violations by the California Department of Fish and Game. While under investigation for hunting within Yosemite, he was cited for hunting with his son in the Lake Perris State Park in October of last year.
Chris Gierlich pleaded guilty to 14 of 17 counts against him on May 25 in Federal court, according to the release. These included three counts of hunting within Yosemite and three counts of weapons possession within the park.
That same day Chad Gierlich pleaded guilty to nine of the 17 counts against him. Those included three counts of hunting within Yosemite and three counts of possession of a weapon within the park. Narasky pleaded guilty to hunting in Yosemite and possession of a weapon in the park.
All three men were sentenced by Mono County Judge Stan Eller. The penalties included 60 days in jail, between two and 10 years of hunting license revocation, three years probation and a $1,000 fine and community service.
Yosemite Park Ranger and spokeswoman for the park, Kari Cobb said the fines were harsher than what are usually handed down for poaching.
"Typically they don't get jail time," she said. "That was definitely a good thing for us to get that out there that they are being severely punished."
The men were sentenced Oct. 19 in Federal Court.
Chris Gierlich's sentence also bars him from hunting within the United States for his five year probation period. He is not allowed to possess a bow and arrow and he is not allowed to be around anyone who is hunting.
Chad Gierlich's sentence also includes five years of supervised probation, and a $52,368 fine. He is also prohibited from being in the presence of hunters, barred from hunting in the United and States and is not allowed to have a bow and arrow.
Narasky was sentenced to two years of supervised probation and a $7,500 fine. His hunting equipment found in the park during the investigation was also seized, according to the release.
All three men are not allowed in Yosemite Park for the duration of their probation periods.
Cobb said poaching is a problem in the parks but it has not reached epic proportions. Rangers are trained to look for signs of poaching, she said.
The investigation into the three men began in August of 2008 after California Fish and Game Wardens got an anonymous tip about suspected poaching in the Virgina Canyon are of Yosemite, according to the release.
The poaching investigation was a joint effort between California Fish and Game and the National Park Service.

I know Chad Gerlick and he is a great guy and awesome bow hunter. Hunt Crazy is right about the deer on Chad's wall...I saw it a few weeks ago. I dont judge him or the other two....I wasnt there. Its a lesson learned.
Also, the Lake Perris thing is PURE B.S. I know the spot he hunts and its not in the park. Also Lake Perris is not a State Park..its a State Recreation Area. They allow bird hunters to hunt that area every season. There is know where in that area where you see "Bird hunting is ok, but no deer hunting". DFG was on a wich hunt on this one.

Welome back, Bruce!
ok.....First off we dont have mulies in D11, we have pacific hybrids, and yes they get it done every year in d11...infact they hunt some of the same spots I hunt along with some boys you would know by there names in the record books..... Ok... I guess I wasn't specific enough for you. I stand corrected. (I'll be sure to explain what sub-species of elk or whitetail I decide to hunt next year and not just say 'elk' or 'whitetail'. It depends on who you talk to. Yes, a Pacific Hybrid is a cross between a mule deer and blacktail deer. The California Bowmen Hunters recognize the Pacific Hybrid. CA Fish & Game shows California mule deer in their hunting guides. You pick. Still doesn't change the fact that he got caught poaching.
second, that big buck that was in the record books....still hanges in his house to this day...fish and game investigated the shit out of it all legit! I am sure it was. I never said it wasn't legit or not a record.
I know the gerlicks if you didnt notice... there good people, yes they made a mistake, I hope they lived and learned. bottom line I dont wish nothing bad onto them or there family. I never wished any ill will on them or their family. I just think their licenses should be revoked for life, not for 5 years. Bottom line is that they are convicted poachers. They drove over 6 hours to kill some monster deer only to claim them as legit kills down here. I think they got off extremely light. Compare that to the case of Coleman Houston where he bought the racks and claimed them as his own, Chad actually went out and killed deer. You were pretty harsh on Coleman, but lenient with Chad.
Hunt Crazy in CA post from Wed, 12/02/2009 about Coleman Houston
This POS is on every forum you can find......he got to be famous all right....so famous we will never see him again!!!.....I have to say I like killin big mature animals just like everyone else....but this hole what the score is and it a new state record bullshit....etc...etc... is going to be the death of this sport......
Interesting who you side with when he's your buddy.
BOOOOOOM! Lets go to MAVERICKS.
All I can say is well......SPOT ON BRUCE!!! BTW-next time you see Chad and JB....tell them that me and my family miss them tons! Tell J.B. Wyatt says what up! FWIW-All of the younger kids at R.A. looked WAY up to J.B.....the sport and us here locally are gonna miss these guys big time!
Hunt Crazy I'm not picking sides here and not really interested in your pissing match. I would just like some clarification on how Coleman is a "pos" because he bought horns (dead animal horns) off the internet so he could be famous. But Chad is a "good guy" because he knowingly went into a restricted hunting area and killed animals so he could be famous. And yes he did it to be famous otherwise he would not have made up stories on where they were killed and put them in a record book. They both made mistakes they both paid, or are paying for those mistakes. Forgive and forget. But don't sit there and act as if one is a saint and the other is a sinner.
And as far as your beef with Al I think you are nit picking because you don't like Al for whatever reason. So why don't you be a man about it and just come out and tell Al you don't like him cause your jealous of him or whatever the reason is instead of attacking where you have no business attacking?
My view from the outside looking in!
It's about time you guys started laying into LEATHER HEAD! Now lets all be happy and go drink at MAVERICKS, I will buy the first round! Eric, what cite belongs to FAT BOY and who is this fat bastard you speak of/

Hunt Lazy maybe the same day someone teaches you how to spell and put a sentence together could be the same day they teach you how to read and you could go back and re-read. You were asked a specific question that you refuse to answer.......Here it is again for the slow learner (that would be you)........How is it that Coleman is a "pos" but Chad is a "good guy" for basically doing the same thing which is they lied cheated and got caught. I dont know either one of them so I am going to assume they are both good guys that made a mistake and who am I to judge. (Ya know since I havent met either one). But we already know how you feel about people you know nothing about....Right BUD?
Im down to go drink some beers, I just dont want Bruce to get all huffy at the people he doesnt know in the bar. He must hate the whole world.
No one has ever been banned from this site. But Hunt Crazy is just here to start drama. This site is intended to let people speak their mind, but when the stuff they write is just out to attck people for no reason with no evidence or truth, then why have them on here. We are all bow hunters and we are all on the same team. This is not a contest.
Now lets get back to the topic.
All right boys we dont need all this fussin over little old me. Im doing just fine, and I want to thank my freinds that have stuck with me threw all this BS. And Bruce is just sticken up for his buddy and he is right about coleman. What I did and he did is 2 totally differnt thangs. Where we hunted up there was an 8 to 10 mile packin going from 9 to over 11 thousand ft elev. and stayed there for 10 straight days. and yes I shot a buck that went around 160 on the 8th day my bro shot one that went 145 on the 7th day and JB shot one that went 130 on the 5th day and Kyle went all ten days with out getting one. There was plenty sign of other peaple hunting this area both rifle and archery, I saw hunters there the first year we hunted it. These deer were deffinitly wild and just as hard to harvest as the deer in socal. So by no means was it as easy to do as glueing horns on a dead deers head. as a matter of fact I can bet that this Forest Crawler guy who ever he is can go up there and not fill his tag.
Now when the f&g got a hold of my gps and found out who I was with all the record book stuff and magazine articals. they did a full investagation on me going back 5 years. They went to every location of all my killes and nit picked everything they could to build there case up north. I harvest 2 sometimes 3 deer every year and my son has taken 4 bucks since he was 12 and plenty of other game in other states too so there was plenty of stuff to investigate. And what they came up with is so BS that the court wants to throw it out but f&g are maken them go to trial on it and both are from Perris, there where no charges from chino hills and yes that is where that 143 buck is from and yes they tried hard for that one but it was 100% leagal just like 95% of my stuff was. Now ask your self if F&G had all this info on you, knowing every step you took and all the info from your computers and everything you said on these forams for the last five years, would you be in trouble? I bet you would. I have been bow hunting for over 20 yrs. and now a lot of hunters and I always thought I was one of the more lagit hunters compared to what they have told me of what they have done. I have always had tags for everyting I harvest and have never shot a doe or meat deer, over the last 5 years I wouldnt shoot at bucks if they wouldnt score over 120, no matter where I was hunting.
Thanks for askin about JB he is doin fine, He is wrestling, we go to tournaments every week and he is kicken ass. High school season just started this week and Im coachen the wrestling team at the high school JB started this year. It takes my mind off of huntin/fishen and this crap.
Now you guys now a little more about what really happen maybe some of the crap talken can stop. Now I have to go to all the other sights NOT! I only posted on this sight cus Eric is a cool guy and his sight is better than the rest.
P.S. Let Bruce back in he means no harm.
Thanks for coming on here and setting the story straight. I tell you what you are in the worst place for this to happen (S. California), I grew up hunting down there and even with you a couple times when JB was about 2 and he use to ride around on your back, anyway the Fish and Game down there is a bunch of BS they look to bust you for something instead of help you, every time I ran into DFG they would make you fill like you were doing something wrong. I lived in AZ and now in Colorado and I have never seen anything like the the Worden's in CA, and by the way FC is a good guy, and like you said about Bruce he doesn't mean any harm he just pulls articles for the site that will help bring traffic and as you can see he is good at it so lets move on....good luck with everything and tell JB to keep putting stuff down then post them on the site (DIYbowhunter.com)....
Thanks for posting Chad. It takes alot to get on here and do that! I wish you and JB the best and hope to get him out hog hunting soon.
For the readers: I deleted some of my comments on this thread because they were off subject and directed at Hunt Crazy.
Bruce and I have talked it out. It got pretty heated and off of the subject. If he wants to build a new profile and join us again that is fine by me.(Eric) He has contributed alot to this site since the begining. No hard feelings!
cool CG came on here and set the record straight....now only if that fat fuq Forest Crawler would come under the fuqin rock he's been hiding under and a give a formal apology to the G's for the original post. Goes to show you this tool shed has nothing better to do than surf around for B.S. to post. Pretty sad that the diq-head actually posts a pic of a kid w/his Dad to justify his righteous-ness on an internet forum......
FWIW-I know this is 'your' site..and I don't have a dog to fight yours...but if your gonna yank Bruce's post's...the same should go for FC...since he is too pussy to come out and apologize.....
"I hope somebody show's this kid the right way".......what a fuqin douce'........
It does take balls to get on here and post, Chad. I didn't see an apology from you though. I am not going to go over everything again, but what some of you fail to realize is that this is what hurts our sport. Poaching and giving ammo to the anti's out there. There won't be an apology from me because what I stated was my opinion and I have a right to it. I didn't say any of them were anything but poachers, which is a fact.
You all seem to want to defend Chad, which is fine, really. You are friends with hima nd you have that right. I also have the right to disagree with you and post what I think about it. He may well be a good hunter, and from the looks of it he is, but this post isn't about him being a hunter. Chad, you are correct, I wouldn't go up there and fill my tag because it would be poaching.
@COATED - I'm too fat to fit under any rock.
Holy crap!! I step out for a week and a half for my desert muley hunt and find WWIII when I come back.
I don't have a dog in this hunt, so I won't throw rocks. But if you go back and read the posts, the topic got pretty out of control. Not defending anyone, IF Chad was guilty he got off WAY too light in my opinion, IF he wasn't, that's a LOT of BS to have to live through and I don't envy him. I don't know him from adam, never even heard of him, but things got pretty hostile with the name calling and such. When friends are involved, emotions run hot, but there is no need for things to fly off like that by anybody. Nothing is accomplished and things get worse, and I have learned that there are 2 sides to each story. If I want to deal with fighting over hunting, I'll talk to my wife, not spend my time reading it on the internet.
Eric, not sure what was originally in your deleted posts, but that was way cool to go back after you cooled off.
Now, those of you with a dog in this hunt can tell me to get bent, and have the right to do so. No worries. As for me? I'm working on the pics from my muley hunt, cleaning gear and getting ready for the january bow hunt.
