Sleeping Bags
Fri, 02/25/2011 - 04:55
I'm currently searching for a great sleeping bag for hunting season this year that I can pack in that will keep me warm while still being light. I was just curious what everyone else is using and their thoughts on what would be the best option for the money. I want something that will keep me warm during September-Novemberish here in Idaho. Those of you who hunt in the area or similar climates what do you use on your back packing trips. I want to save some money but at the same time I know that quality sometimes does not come cheap. Any advice will be well appreciated! |

I use a Big Agnes Ranger bag, Its rated to +15 but i also use the down filled big agnes sleeping pad that makes it even warmer. The coldest I'be used it was 20 degrees and I was comfortable.
I highly recommend spending the money on a good bag. You don't want a cheap pair of boots or sleeping bag, both will end your hunt early.
I too use a Big Agnes Bag, I have the Zerkel SL 20 degree bag, it is super duper compact and I use the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Mummy pad for it, which I first thought was kind of a rip off for $80 but now I would pay twice that! It is the lightest, most compact sleep system that I have been around and by far the most comfortable. It isn't cheap stuff of course, but I have to imagine I'll be using the same system in 10+ years.
You can't go wrong with the Big Agnes system, I know there are a lot of options but I have never heard anyone that has used the pad/bag together and not loved it 100%. You will not slide off your pad ever again as they are connected.
I always go with a 0 degree bag. Just incase it really gets cold. you can always unzip it if it gets too warm. That way you have one bag, year round.

Thanks everyone! This is all really helpful. I have heard nothing but good things about the Big Agnes bags and I am leaning more toward that route. Thanks once again!
