Failure is not an option to these hunters and they believe hunting success lies only in the kill. I'll be hunting Michigan and hopefully Southern Ohio. I was after a Big boy last year and no one got him so Im looking for him this year. My guess is he will go 140-150 this year. I haven't seen him yet but ate tag soup last season due to I was hunting this buck only. I cant be so picky this season. Got to put meat in the freezer. NO WORK! The Does in my area get shot up bad and this year is the lowest count I can ever remember. Fawn count is WAY down due to very wet spring and Way to many yotes. Other night I was glassing and had 6 young bucks and 5 Does in the field and there was only one fawn with them. This year they are having a antlerless season last week in Sept so the GUNS will be Blazing!!!! I Boycott this hunt!!!!! Being a Bowhunter the last thing I want is Guns Blasting all over the place a week before Archery Season starts!!!!(Oct 1st) And with the Doe count being what it is in my area its the last thing we need!!!! But people are greedy and those poor Does are in trouble if they leave my land.
Michigan - If you want to know how NOT to manage a Deer herd follow our example.

gplant, i will agree 100% with you on the fact that Michigan does need to re-think their management plan. IMO, Michigans biggest problem was the DNR allowing the insurance agencies and the farm bureau influencing decisions and regulations. once the DNR allowed that to happen a few years back, that is when Michigan whitetail hunting really started going downhill.
unfortunately the same damn thing is happening here in Ohio. the DNR will deny-deny-deny but it is obvious that they are allowing the insurance companies and farm bureau to influence their decisions and regulation. Ohio is slowly but sure paying more this merger. deer hunting in Ohio is not what is was 6-8 years ago.
unfortunately, money walks and bullshit talks. as long as the insurance companies and the farm bureau continue to fork out cash to the DNR, the quality of deer hunting will suffer!!!
where do you hunt in Southern Ohio? anywhere near Meigs County?
