Went south with my friend stever for a turkey scouting trip and ended up chasing a monster hog. We always bring out bows with us anytime we go out into the field. we have learned this lesson the hard was haha.

So here goes. we started the day early just listening and going to spots we say turkey last season and sure enough we found a few jakes. we sat back and watched them for a while marked their location on the GPS and left them alone so we could find them on opening day. we scouted about a 7 mile area finding a few really nice toms that hopfully no one els has found yet haha. we had lunch at like 1pm and relaxed talkin about how fun opening day is gonna be. then went back to scouting. We decided to start hiking back at about 4. I want to say at like 530ish we herd a crazy crashing going up the hillside in front of us... when we finally saw what it was we went strait into kill mode because we both had hog tags in out pockets. We followed this guy up over a small hill. by the time we crested the hill he was already at the bottom of the other side. we picked up our pace to close the distance. he was now just walking up the other side of the next hill and we were right on his tail. we shed our packs knowing that we would have a chance very quick. I made a loop wide and up the hill out and in front of the hog while Steven stayed right on his tail. I was about 43 yds when I took my shot. My arrow cliped a small twig and glanced my arrow right over his back. GOD DAM PIECE OF SH*T.... as im trying to rerack another arrow the hog turns and faces strait at me so I freeze. mean while Steven is at full draw and when the hog turned to face me he turned perfect broadside for Steven. I never even herd his bow I only herd the arrow hit him right in the pocket. I saw the arrow hit and the hog let out a small yelp and folded up he rolled 45 yds strait down the hill back to Stevens feet. Hahaha We both started cheering cuz that was such an epic stalk and such a BADASS shot. 45 yds at almost a 60 degree angle uphill. Nice shot Steven. After the grooling pack out with the hole hog because neither one of us had our cameras. we finally made it back to the truck at like 815. set up the hog and snapped a cupple pics.

you can tell by how we were dressed that we wern't out trying to find this guy lol

Hope you guys enjoyed. Good luck to all on opening day of turkey

I am amazed at how you were able to stay on the hogs tail after he spooked. Nice pig.

You know I was thinking the same thing till we got back to the house and were skinning it. we found a muzzy broadhead buried in his sholder bone. it was healed over but you could see that it was deff slowing him down for sure. That and im not sure we really spooked him. cuz he was just trotting and walking not bulldozing strait up the hill like they do. I mean he was moving slow enough for me to circle around and uphill so I was paralling him on the hillside.
